I don’t know, they all seem pretty bad to me, to be honest. I guess that’s why Nintendo would be so resistant to making any movies out of this: the fans have really high expectations. Still, you’ve gotta applaud these folks for trying, at least.
To be honest, I would’ve thought even more people couldn’t tell the difference. Of course, this isn’t a scientific study, it’s a phone survey, so it’s not necessarily completely accurate. I can’t say I’m surprised though. While my TV isn’t true HD (it’s 1080i instead of 1080p), I found it hard to tell the difference when it came to DVDs. Games I notice a big difference, but not movies.
A recent survey by the Leichtman Research Group (LRG) shows that 18 percent of HDTV owners think they’re watching high-definition shows, when in fact they’re viewing standard definition programming. The findings are based on a telephone survey of 1302 U.S. households.
I’d say it’d be since Shell (the oil company) found this one (click for video!). Apparently scientists have known about this kind of squid before, just they’d never captured one on film. Sure sure, they’re hiding it from us. Before you know it, we’ll be attacked by giant walking squid that can shoot laser beams from their beaks, raining destruction down upon our defenseless cities!
A mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) underwater, a remote control submersible’s camera has captured an eerie surprise: an alien-like, long-armed, and—strangest of all—”elbowed” Magnapinna squid.
In a recent Jello mold competition, some of the entries were mighty interesting. This one won third place over all, it is a pumpkin pie and twinkie turkey. Can you say yummy?
Rather than the guns ‘n’ hos approach of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, 7 Million looks to be taking its cues from Ocean’s Eleven, Thief and Leverage - crime with style, in other words, with a refreshing lack of violence and emphasis on skill and planning.
Now this is an interesting concept for an MMO. While I can’t say it’ll be any good, I like it when companies try to break the mould. This one kind of strikes me as a similar sort of thing for MMOs as The Ship was for shooters. I’ve signed up for the beta (though the buttons are in German, it seemed simple enough), mainly cause I’m a beta whore.
Hey folks, I decided to add Gravatar support to the site. What’s a Gravatar, you ask? Why, it’s a universal avatar not tied to any one particular site. It’s actually made by the people who made Wordpress, but once you set your avatar up, you’ll end up using it on any Gravatar-supporting site. Cool, eh?
Go here, register, set up your picture, and give it about 5-10min to take effect. It doesn’t quite integrate with this theme as much as I might like, but if I can find the time to, I’ll be making some changes to the theme to make it more my own and to integrate the avatars a bit better.
Check out this awesome little animated short by Blur Studios, the company that does all those intros for games as well as the also-awesome Rockfish video from awhile back.
I finally have completed Lost Odyseey. I managed to complete this on sunday. To say the least the story is excellent however the end grind was kind of long. I got this special item called Nullify all Elements which to it’s name made me invulnerable to all spells of fire, earth, water, wind. This made the last boss really easy. In fact it was so easy that the pre-end boss was probably harder. Not sure why the difficulty skewed so much but hey a victory is a victory. The ending wrapped things up nicely too but was surprised at all the freaking load times and the annoyance of when watching a long cut scene if you leave your remote unattended pauses everything.
So now I started playing Condemed. Awesome game though kinda of misses the mark a bit. Like you have some CSI tools at your disposal but use them very infrequently and serve no tangible purpose. I also would have preferred more realistic CSI tools. Seem’s kind of Star Trekkie kind of stuff. Another thing which irritates the hell out of me is reused textures. Essentially all buildings / subways /anywhere on the planet looks like a slum. And on the grounds are the same freaking textures!! But it has great atmosphere though.
So basically playing a few quick games before jumping into another RPG game on massive scale. I think after Condemed might give the PS3 a whirl (Finally). I think more of less my 360 games are slowly up to date play wise. The ones I do have to play are more your epic length games so yeah, putting those on the back burner.
And aside from all that I painted the living room with my dad over the weekend. It’s now all orange and I am also in the process of putting the tree up. Go holidays! What is up with everyone else?
Curt : I'll school it good when I get home. It's probably up to no good, I imagine!
Neil D : Well maybe you should tell your desktop that its supposed to be off
Curt : As for Wrath, that blows. :S But hopefully we'll see you on there soon regardless.
Curt : I can't imagine how I could be logged into Skype, being that my desktop computer is completely off right now!
Neil D : Oh, looks as though i will only beable to pick up WotLK tomorrow... boooo...
Neil D : Curt, you left your skype on! that or your DMing right now! /gasp
Curt : A colleague of mine said I sound like Stewie from the Family Guy. I don't know whether to be amused or insulted.
Curt : I've changed it so the Gravatars only appear in comments, rather than posts. I thought it looked a little odd if one person made a bunch of posts in a row, and it played havok with the formatting for each post.
Curt : No worries. I was beginning to feel like I was blogging to myself, though, so any posts or comments from people who are not me are appreciated.
Joe : Thanks for keeping up the posting. With the lack of comments it might seem fruitful, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that your efforts are appreciated. I will have to go through my backlog and start posting.
Curt : Oh yeah, forgot to post this earlier: I beat Fable 2, yay!
Carl : I love the Backloggery
Curt : I've posted enough stuff that it's rolled over to the Older Entries, so make sure to check there to not miss anything.
Curt : Also, I'm adding some more categories where needed. I might see about going back and tagging some older posts that fit, but that might be a bit of an undertaking, being that there are over 300 posts now.
Curt : The site's been too quiet lately, so I'm going on a posting rampage. Enjoy!
Curt : Doing a bit of fiddling with the site, please don't pay attention to any breakages.
Neil D : Congrats!
Curt : Yay, I beat LittleBigPlanet!
Neil D : Yeah i am looking forward to seeing how it turns out, especially after the day i had at work. Rene's long lost cousin moved here from toronto last year and she is a photographer. She has her own business, met her this weekend and she is looking for an apprentice type. Has a few weddings already booked for the spring in Toronto, asked if i'd want to help out.
Curt : Oh wow, that's awesome!
Neil D : If all goes well i may have landed myself an apprenticeship for my photography. Would start at the end of winter/start of spring. Could be interesting!
Curt : Indeed. I'm looking forward to playing more and seeing what happens next.
Neil D : I sense that a truly epic D&D camapaign has begun!
John : I thought I noticed a improvement in smoothness while playing Fable 2. Load times and framerates seemed better.
Curt : Yeah, I'm loving it. I love how it runs even better now, and installing games to the HDD is awesome! It actually helped the framerate in Mass Effect and nearly fixed the menu lag in Fable 2!
John : Will do. Oh, and the new 360 update is pretty slick, I like it.
Curt : Yay! D&D tonight! I recommend everybody upgrade Skype if they get the chance. The very latest version apparently fixes call quality and reduces dropped calls.
Curt : The big Xbox update is today, for those with Xboxes. I haven't checked it out yet, but I've heard it's pretty slick.
Curt : Sweet. We will patiently await your arrival.
Neil D : i'll be picking up left 4 dead some time soon, won't have time to play t'ill december though.
Curt : Woot! If you get the PC version, we can play online together!
John : I played through the demo finally last night. Left 4 Dead is awesome. I'm so gonna buy it.
Curt : Yay! Left 4 Dead is out today!
Curt : Yay! My Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition arrived in the mail today!
Curt : Sounds good to me. I'll send out an invite, then.
Neil D : Ok, how about we just pencil in for Thursday then? Looks to be the only day Joe is not crazy busy this week. If i can get things rolling with my project then i can easily take Thursday off to play.
Curt : Thus far, I'm free every night except Monday night, as long as I've got enough early warning to set aside the time, that is.
Joe : I have a date on wednesday, friday I will more then likely be heading back to whitby. Work is going to be really busy Mon & Tues, I don't want to be a zombie for the first game but if we want to play then I will make the effort.
Neil D : So starting this week i need to start my class project. It will nearly dominate all my spare time for the next two weeks. So if we plan on playing during this time i need to know well in advance when people are free. i figure i can spare atleast one evening a week. So lets figure out what days the most people are free and i will take that day as a break from my project.
Curt : No worries, I figured it was pretty last minute so not many people would be around.
John : Crap, didn't see that post until this morning. Not that it would have made a difference, I didn't get home until 9 last night because Deb's dad has been in the hospital since Saturday and only just got released yesterday, so we were over there for supper.
Curt : I'm actually around tonight as well if people want to play. I'll aim to be on Skype around 8, just in case.
Neil D : So for D&D this week i am free tonight or tomorrow. This is the one week i am not free at all on the weekend. Next week i am good to go almost any day except Saturday the 22nd. i know Chris expressed interest in playing when i talked to him on Sunday. Would like to get the ball rolling.
John : As for Left 4 Dead, I downloaded the demo last night but didn't get to play it, spent all night on the phone with XBox Live support trying to find out where my Fable 2 code is. Final word, MS has stated there is a delay and that no ETA can be provided.
John : No D&D again this week, then?
Neil D : I can't wait to try Left 4 Dead, as for D&D, Saturday i have class and then we are going out for the evening for a belated birthday dinner for Angie with her friends.
Curt : I can see that if you don't intend to play Left 4 Dead online, then there's little incentive to purchase it. I was a bit leery at first as well, until I played it online the other night and now I'm much more certain about my purchase. The randomness that the Director adds is pretty amazing when you're playing on a higher difficulty with a group of players.
Joe : As for D&D, Thursday is no good cause we have the concert, Friday I have three things to do that I am already trying to juggle. If you guys want to try for Saturday or Sunday I would be up for it.
Joe : Left 4 Dead is great, but I might pass on purchasing it. Doesn't seem like the kind of game I see myself playing after a week of blowing up zombies. Suspenseful as hell though!
